Dublin Lions honors long time member

At their October 17th meeting, the Dublin Lions Club held a heartfelt dedication in memory of longtime member Willard Akers, honoring his 63 years of service to the organization and the community. Akers, who passed away earlier this summer, had been an unwavering presence within the club since joining in 1960. As the caretaker of the Dublin Lions building, he played an essential role not only in maintaining the facility but also in creating a welcoming atmosphere for countless residents who rented the space for community events, family gatherings, and celebrations.

The club unveiled a memorial plaque in the meeting room, officially renaming it in Willard’s honor. The dedication ceremony was attended by Willard’s family and fellow Lions members, who reflected on his steadfast commitment and the positive influence he had on the club and the community. His family members shared stories of his dedication to service, echoing his belief in staying active as the secret to his longevity.

Willard’s contributions went far beyond maintenance; he was a friendly face, a guiding hand, and a valued friend to the Lions Club and the entire Dublin community. Up until just a few weeks before his passing, Willard continued to devote time and care to the building and to the people who frequented it. The newly dedicated Willard Akers Memorial Room stands as a lasting tribute to his legacy—a place where his memory will live on, inspiring the spirit of service for generations to come.
